LUCAP Hosts SoleFest 2012 Dance-A-Thon
Volunteers from the Invisible Children and TOMS LUCAP projects hosted SoleFest, a dance-a-thon fundraiser benefiting Invisible Children and TOMS Shoes. Teams competed to outlast each other on the dance floor, and also for awards such as "Most Spirited Individual" and "Most Awkward Couple." The dance featured performances by student and alumni artists Alex Camero, Lyriqs Da Lyriciss, and Kathryn Wood Funk Band.
The TOMS campus club sold 25 pairs of TOMS shoes in the weeks leading up to the event. During the dance, participants decorated their own pairs of TOMS shoes in a "Style Your Sole" party in the Claiborne Room.
Volunteers from the TOMS LUCAP project also created posters to raise awareness around the issue of access to footwear in the developing world. Children who go without shoes are more likely to become infected with soil-transmitted diseases. In many cases, children who don't own shoes are unable to attend school. For every pair of TOMS shoes purchased, a pair of shoes is donated to a child in need.
Solefest 2012 was co-sponsored by the Student Government Association and the University Programming Board.
