Loyola's Pope-a-palooza

Wed, 09/16/2015

On Thursday, September 24, 2015 Pope Francis will address a joint session of Congress.  Join Mission and Ministry as we commemorate this historic occasion with a series of events. Beginning Monday, September 21, at 7:15 p.m. in Nunemaker Auditorium, Mission and Ministry will cosponsor with the University Honors Program a panel on the recent encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si’.  Then on Thursday, September 24, at 9:00 a.m. we will air the live broadcast of his address to congress on the television near Starbucks in the Danna Center.  After the daily 12:00 p.m. mass at St. Ignatius Chapel, follow Francis in his Popemobile from the chapel to the St. Charles Room in the Danna Center.  Join in the parade to receive Pope Francis beads and “Pope in Your Pocket” prayer cards.  The initial congressional address will be rebroadcast in the St. Charles Room at 12:45 p.m.  Mission and Ministry will provide papal BINGO cards with chances to win prizes.  Experts from the Loyola community will be on hand to comment and answer questions about this historic event.

During both the initial broadcast and rebroadcast a Twitter wall will be set up so you can connect with others.  Also, be on the lookout for sightings of Pope Francis throughout the campus, which will be posted on Mission and Ministry’s Facebook page.
